how time flies!
what have i been doing? college, which consumes most of my time. housesitting for an old man with four cats while he works in camp. hanging out with a crazy new friend lady, chain smoking, eating lots, trying to be merry while our worlds kind of crash down around us. lots of hot chocolate has been consumed.
my final exams for my first semseter are this week! i've been dogging it, not really studying, it's hard to get my mind in that state. physics, chemistry, english, biology. so much science. it's mind boggling.
i talk to the cats a lot. they're lovely little beings. i finished my friend's painting finally, i'm not good at doing things in a timely manner.
i still like to sleep. i wish i could sleep more. winter is a time for sleeping, not stressing, i believe.
i think i am going to go sleep.

right. i'm set to start school in T minus 5 days. not gonna lie, i'm scared shitless. i think that my brain's deteriorated so much since high school that i'm just going to implode the second i walk into calculus. barf. oh well, i'm just gonna give'er so hard, not even have a social life, until i master this shizz and walk outta there with a 5.5 GPA and march my ass down to Vic for the big time show. ugh.
being so grown up kind of disgusts me.
i don't like it. it's scary. no more breaks, no exceptions, you're tried as an adult because YOU ARE AN ADULT. with bills to pay and responsibilities and jobs and relationships and cars and lifes and GROSS

sometimes i get really bad migraines.

my head just screams and i'm sore and tired and everything makes me want to cry.

like how i had to stay late at work because the till was off and then i didn't get to go on a hike and someone wants me to go out but i am broke and have to work in the morning and my boyfriend broke the cell phone i bought him two days ago and i can't get a hold of him and there's nothing in the fridge except for old hummus and some wrinkly mushrooms and a lot of condiments and pepperoni but i don't eat meat and i tell my mom there's nothing to eat and she says "oh but there's plenty" so i hide in my room with a pudding and a half can of pringles for my dinner and now my mom's on the phone complaining loudly about insignificant things and i want to shake her and tell her to open her eyes but she would never listen and

suddenly this seems to be about a bit more than a headache.

My favorite place to go for a stroll is an abandoned road right near my house.

It's very peaceful. In some parts, nature's almost taken over the road, filling the cracks with mosses and grasses. Other parts have been graffiti'd. I read something new almost every time.

Today was very quiet. When the wind travelled through the trees, the sounds of dead leaves crashing down sounded like waves on the ocean. A raven flew above my head and I could hear the swooshing of its wings in the air. The sun was warm, and it was lovely.

Guys, I have no idea what I'm going to be this year. This is odd, because usually I've got my costume figured out by November 2nd of the previous year. I'm hoping I will find something in China, but I'm not too sure I will... do they even celebrate Halloween over there? I have no idea.

Mens vs. Ladies... hmm.
So, every so often I take a peek online and see what the costume websites have come up with. Let me say, the woman's costume section is ridiculous! Sexy tin man, sexy Brian from family guy, sexy flasher? Really? And a quick peak over to the men's section reveals a multitude of superheroes, movie characters, pirates, and villains- none of which are labeled "sexy". How unfair is that? Just because I am a lady, does not mean I should be expected to dress up as a super skank at every opportunity I get. Now, there's absolutely nothing wrong with showing some skin! But when the media pushes that as the "norm" - girls should be sexy, guys should be scary? Fuck that. Dress up how you want, be it ghost, ghoul, or school girl. And whatever you do, have fun!

All this preparation for the new school year (which, sadly, I have no part in) has gotten me thinking about those darned resolutions I made last December. Did I actually fulfill anything this year? How about you?

To finish my college prep so I can go to university.
To save up some money.
To go completely vegetarian.
To focus on more positivity.
To learn how to drive.

So, that's not too bad, I suppose. I also learned to skateboard a bit, honed my guitaring skills, made a tonne of friends, and made it through the Summer of Learning To Love Myself (All By Myself)! Okay, yeah, I am fairly proud. Watch out, Autumn, here I come! Ka-POW!

There is officially one place in town that still does one hour photo developing. Everywhere else I go people look at me like I'm mad when I ask about ye olde dinosaur, film. Like, seriously, not only does our brand new Wal-Mart Supercentre not develop film ("at the moment," they're out of photo paper they claim...?) but when I asked the clerk at the head of the photo department where the film was, he squinted at me and said he thought it was somewhere in the electronics department. And, lo and behold, there it was! A quaint row of film between ear buds and rechargeable batteries. Why is the film not in the photo department? Why does no-one develop film anymore? WHAT IS WRONG WITH THE WORLD THESE DAYS?! Now excuse me, I'm going to go into my 1984 Citation motorhome to put a pot o' tea on my gas range and watch a VHS tape in my video cassette recorder, which is hooked up to my CRT television, thank you very much!

Summer Manifesto

Hello, lovelies! Are you enjoying your summer? I sure hope so! If not, why don't you try and write some rules to live by for these glorious few months? I sure did!

Enjoy each day as much as possible. Want to go out and do something? Then go out and do it, dammit!
Drink lots of water. Or lemonade. Or iced teas. Try to stay away from soda and coffee, hard as it may be!
Lose your inhibitions. Go say hi to that cute person over there. Dance your hardest. Sing. Go crazy!
Smile! It's the single best thing you can put on your face.
Try something new! I almost have all the protective gear I need (sans helmet) to learn how to longboard. But, I want to try lots of new things! Yoga! Knitting! Everything!
Make some friends! It's not hard, but it's so rewarding! You may be surprised at how amazing people can be once you get to know them.
Also, cleanse your life of those poisonous people! Delete them off Facebook, your phone, your messenger, everything! If they don't make you feel magical, you probably don't need them around.
Cherish every moment, it'll be over faster than you think! ♥ ♥ ♥

If I could offer you only one tip for the future, sunscreen would be it. The long term benefits of sunscreen have been proved by scientists whereas the rest of my advice has no basis more reliable than my own meandering experience. I will dispense this advice now.

But trust me, in 20 years you'll look back at photos of yourself and recall in a way you can't grasp now how much possibility lay before you and how fabulous you really looked.

Floss.

Be careful whose advice you buy, but, be patient with those who supply it. Advice is a form of nostalgia, dispensing it is a way of fishing the past from the disposal, wiping it off, painting over the
ugly parts and recycling it for more than it's worth.
But trust me on the sunscreen.

1. If it was your birthday tomorrow, what would be on your wishlist?
♥ Oh, golly! A Canon Rebel XSi, a Macbook Pro, Serato Scratch Live (well fuck, might as well wish for new turntables and a mixer while I'm at it), new computer speakers, a shopping trip to a lovely mall, a yellow pleather purse, oh dear... haha! I'm at a stage of lusting for objects!

2. Do you look after your nails? Do you paint them? If so, do you have a colour that you keep returning to again & again?
♥ I try to look after my nails, but because I work with nasty chemicals and stuff, it's sort of hard to do. I keep them fairly short now and usually just use top coat, because nail polish only lasts a couple hours before looking icky for me! I do love bright colors for my toes, though! I'm in love with yellow and flamingo pink.

3. What star sign are you, & do you think it is accurate?
♥ I'm a Sagittarius. A quick look to my right gives me a definition off my favorite mug: "You love to love! You love life & the elements. You are bursting with energy & drive, certainly a little unpredictable!" Well, fair enough. I remember reading somewhere once that the body part associated with my sign is the hips, which is interesting because I've always had huge, bony hips!

4. What is something you have recently learned to appreciate?
♥ Hm... friends? I've spent a lot of time alone over here. Having someone to talk to is really nice, actually!

5. What is your favourite city in the world, & why?
♥ Sadly, I've barely traveled at all! My favorite place that I've actually been to would probably be Victoria, BC. But I think my ideal favorite place is somewhere in a warm desert, with no lack of fun things to do and see! The southern US, maybe? In Mexico? I'll know when I get there!

Cameras, Oh My!

Good day, my loves! How are you? I've spent my morning lounging around and dreaming about cameras. Oh, how I would love a nice, new digital SLR! I absolutely adore taking pictures with my Canon A-1, but film and developing is expensive, and for someone who is completely new to photography such as myself, I need to take lots of pictures to experiment and find out what works and what doesn't! I think that being able to see my pictures right as I take them would be super useful. So, I've been saving up! Right now, I've got my eyes on the Canon Rebel XSi... but I'm totally not sure! A camera is a pretty big investment, and I don't want to just buy the first one that I can afford, ahah. So, I was wondering... do you own a DSLR? How do you like it? Do you have any tips for someone just getting into the field? Thanks a tonne, and I really appreciate you taking the time to read my blog! xoxo ♥ ♥ ♥

Hello, lovelies! Just so you know, I'm not dead or anything! I've just been dealing with a super-nasty bout of depression lately. I have a few good days... and quite a few bad, bad days. It sucks! All I want to do is sleep. I have no energy or motivation to do anything. I even stopped caring about stuff like updating my blog, and that's just awful! I'm going to try and get my butt back into gear.
Today was a pretty good day, I shared a cake that I baked last night with all my co-workers and they all said it was really delicious! I also went for a short bike ride, and found out how out of shape I have gotten! I really need to exercise more. I can't even ride up itty bitty hills without my knees aching, and my heart pounds so hard I feel like passing out! Not good, hahaha.

This is my birdy friend. He likes to try and steal my recyclables and compost when I leave them outside!

Yumm! I used this recipe, and it turned out great. Other than being a bit dense, you couldn't tell it was vegan!

My self-esteem has been pretty low lately, boo! But, I took the time to do my hair a bit and put on some makeup this morning, and took a few webcam pictures! It made me feel a bit better.

I've Returned! (With Hummus, Too!)

Hola! Sorry about the random lack of posts! I spent a week in town without my dear laptop, and then on the weekend I was super busy doing fun things! Friday night there was a dance at the hall featuring Flatfoot 56 and The Brains. I had a blast dancing with everyone, despite that my glasses got stomped on! Poor little things. I think I might just have to switch over to contacts. On Saturday after work me and Zack canoed around the lake, and played Mario Party! Now I am just relaxing and cleaning up the aftermath of my weekend!

I look odd because I have a mouthful of hummus.
I also made hummus for the very first time today! It was super easy and delicious, so I figured you might want to try and make some too! I used a itty bitty food processor, but I bet you could try and made it with a blender or hand mixer, or just by smashing it really well!
You will need....
1 can of Chickpeas, drained (but save the liquid!)
2 Lemons, peeled
1/2 clove of Garlic (or more, if you prefer!)
1 tbsp Tahini
1 tbsp Olive Oil
Salt, to taste

Put the lemon, olive oil, tahini and garlic in the processor and blend. Add the chickpeas and salt and blend some more! Adjust thickness to your liking by adding a bit of the chickpea juice at a time. And, voila! Delicious hummus! This made enough for 3-4 people, if you really like hummus (I know I do!).

                                   Basking in the sun... under a different tree this time!

I have internet again! Hurrah! That's probably the most exciting thing going on for me right now, haha! I just finished my first housekeeping shift this year, and I am super tired! It was a very long day. Now, I need to figure out what to have for dinner. There's so much delicious healthy food over here, it's fantastic! I've accidentally been eating a really healthy vegan diet, because dairy products and eggs are super expensive. I really don't mind it at all! So, this week, I'm loving....
       ♥ Almond Breeze! It's really tasty, a great milk alternative, and it doesn't hurt my tummy like soy milk does! Yay! ♥ Sunshine! I love sunshine! There's been one sunny day in the past week, but I don't care! One is better than none, ♥ Tea! I love tea, forever and always. ♥ Zack's gonna get his ears pierced, and I'm gonna go with him! This excites me! ♥ Warmer weather! I know we're just about to head into Juneuary, but there's bound to be a couple really nice days here and there. I can't wait to go swimming in the ocean on really hot days, or canoeing in the lake! It's going to be a blast. ♥ Nintendo 64! Probably my favorite video game system, other than Super Nintendo. ♥

♥ Rain! The more we get right now, the less likely it is that there'll be forest fires later in the season!
♥ One of my seeds sprouted! Hurrah! I only planted like, over a hundred.... but one's a start, right?
♥ Tea! I love drinking tea every morning. It's like a warm cup of happy!
♥ Tom Petty. OMGHEISPLAYINGINAMONTHANDIDON'TGETTOGOWAAAAAAAH. So upset. At least my BFF is going ... without me... one of us will get to experience him! Haha.
♥ Zebra print sheets! I thought someone had bought the ones I'd had my eyes on for a long time, but they were just hiding! Yay!
♥ Getting film developed! I have to scan everything first, but they'll be on my flickr soon! Some of them turned out really well. Others, well... I'm still learning!
♥ Getting rid of stuff! I'm a disgustingly huge pack rat. But, I totally gutted my wardrobe and gave away all the stuff that doesn't delight me when I wear it! Two garbage bags! Now I don't have much clothing left, but at least I like everything I kept.
♥ Zack's truck! He bought a cheap little Sonoma and it's delightful! We're gonna fix it up and put the canoe on it for camping trips.
♥ Sushi! Who doesn't love sushi? Weird people, that's who. ♥

      Hello, my dears! Sorry about the late post! I woke up late and had to rush to work, and then after a long long shift my friend came over and we talked about kitties for a long time and it was quite lovely. But now I am here, to satisfy your craving for useless knowledge! Hurrah!

♥ Uhm, that's tricky. Celebrity wise? JIM MORRISON, hands down. Real live people? My Zackawie, duh.

2. Have you ever tried online dating? How did it go? Any tips?
♥ Nope! I don't feel like people on the internet exist until I meet them in real life. I'd much rather get to know someone face to face.

3. Are you sentimental? Do you keep the things other people give you?
♥ Am I ever! I have a few shoeboxes full of trinkets, notes, food wrappers, sticks, scraps, car parts, toys... Each one has a special memory attached to it! I think I'm just worried that because I have such awful memory, I may forget those special moments that brought me joy so long ago. And that would break my heart! I also have a big tote full of my old favorite clothing in case I have a teenage daughter one day.

4. As a child, what were your primary interests?
♥ Monster trucks? Hahah, uhm music, video games (pokemon!), Egypt and reading books would be pretty up there too.

Loving Animals while Looking Great!

Hello lovelies! Did you know that I absolutely adore animals? I really do! That's why when I am shopping for cosmetics, I always try and find brands that don't test on animals. You don't need to go to an expensive store to find these products, either! There's a lot of widely-available drugstore brands which are cruelty free. Here's some of my favorites!

      For hair care, right now I am loving Down Under Natural's. They're a Canadian company that you can find in most supermarkets. Their hair products are made with biodegradable ingredients, they're free of sulphates (which are damaging to your hair and the environment!), they're not tested on animals, and they only cost around two to three dollars! Plus, they smell really nice and fruity, and they actually work well! Before, I was using Green Beaver shampoo and conditioner. They're made with completely natural organic ingredients, and are also a Canadian company. However, the bottles set me back about $9 (each!) and I found you had to use a lot of product to get it to work decently. It did smell like cranberries, though, and I got lots of compliments on how my hair smelled!

      As for skin care, I actually don't use many products. I find that the best things you can do for you skin is to drink a lot of water, eat well, and sleep a lot! I can eat like, three chocolate bars and my skin will be fine, but go for a night of binge drinking and fast food and in the next morning, it will definitely show on my complexion! Other than that, I wash my face with warm water before bed, and I moisturize with JASON Vitamin E Pure Beauty Oil. For zits or weird blotchy areas, I use Thursday Plantation 100% Pure Tea Tree Oil. It's a natural antiseptic, and works wonders on my face!

      Sometimes, it's hard to find good makeup that isn't tested on animals. My favorite company right now is NYX. Their eyeshadow is super pigmented, and I think they're pretty much like the poor girl's MAC!

     Above is some of their eye products, just put on my hand with a damp brush. The thinner purple line is an eye/eyebrow pencil in 917 Purple, and the eyeshadow from top to bottom is Prune, Purple, Cool Blue, Chick, and Tropical. They also make a wicked mascara, and from what I've heard, their nail polish is pretty good too! I get all my NYX products at a Save-On Foods, but I'm sure they're pretty easy to find. I can't remember the exact price of everything, but it's a little bit higher than other drugstore brands though not much. Other cosmetic brands I dig are Physician's Formula, Bonne Bell and Revlon, all which don't test their products on animals! Hurrah!

      If you ever are curious what companies test on animals and which don't, the Caring Consumer website has a very thorough list, and there is even a printable guide that you can bring shopping! I know that the website is sponsored by PETA, but don't worry, it's not super brainwashy or anything! I know that PETA can be quite pushy with their campaigns, and though I'm all for animal rights, even I don't agree with all of their stuff (Calling fish "sea kittens" to discourage eating it? Good morning, lovelies! Do you have a dream journal? Neither do I! But why don't we start one? I always have really weird and confusing dreams. I think writing them down and analyzing them later could be really interesting! For example, I just had a dream that I was at some place (that was a lot like a high school?) where there were concerts happening, and I was with all my friends. Then, as we were about to leave someone told me that Atmosphere was about to perform and there were door tickets for only $10! So, I got really excited and asked Zack if we could stay, and he said yes. There was much screaming and jumping up and down for joy! But when we got to the room where it was, they told us that there were no door tickets! We snuck in anyways and sat down at the front and Zack told me to just hand them ten dollars when they asked me for my ticket. I woke up just as the bouncer started coming around... eep! It was sort of scary! I'm pretty sure I had like a gazillion other dreams before that, but I can only remember bits and snippets like, um, a truck at night time. I wish I could remember everything I dream! What about you? Do you dream vividly every night? Or do you rarely remember your slumberous adventures? ♥ ♥ ♥

Yay for mommies! I love my Mommy, she's the bestest. She's super tough and funny and is always supportive of whatever I'm doing! I'm forever thankful that I am blessed to have her as my mother. To show my appreciation, I made her a really yummy dinner- Asparagus and Orange Salad with Ginger Dressing, and Snapper on Angel Hair (linguine, actually) with Citrus Cream. 1. What is the strangest compliment you’ve ever received?
♥ Hmm.A while back at work, a really creepy lady who may or may not have been mentally handicapped told me that I was really beautiful and that she was going to bring me a present. Errr. I've also been told that I look really European, and that I have perfect lips.
2. What’s your little-known talent?
♥ I can fix cars? Naw, lots of people know that. I just asked my mom and she said that I'm psychic? Sometimes I just know things inexplicably. It's kind of cool! I'm also left handed, and thus fairly artistic and really fast at reading. Nerd pride!
3. What do you obsessively search for on eBay?
♥ Cameras! I constantly browse for a cheap DSLR. Not that I can afford one anytime soon, but hey, I can look.
4. When you were a child, who did you worship & want to be like?
♥ That's a tough one! I don't think I really worshipped anyone. Maybe my Uncle Bob, because he was a mechanic with cool vehicles and motorbikes and was really tough and could lift a door above his head with only his pinkie, or so I liked to tell people! But I also held my Mommy in pretty high regard (still do!).
5. What was your palate band? Otherwise known as the first band you heard that made you realise the world of music was larger than whatever the Top 20 singles were!
♥ Oh, definitely The Doors. I was raised on classic rock, of course. But I do recall finding my mom's The Doors Greatest Hits CD when I was about twelve, and being like "Goddamn, that man is handsome, who is he?" I put on the CD and fell in love. They're still my favorite band! This was around the time that I met my BFF and we both discovered Jim Morrison, Nirvana, The Pixies, The Misfits, The Clash... ahh, glorious youth!

So today, I had a bit of trouble finding a good song to post. And then, I remembered a little incident from earlier in the week! My store had just recieved a bunch of good CD's, at $5.00 each. I immediately grabbed the Sean Kingston CD because, well, why not? And then Tom Judd looked at me and said, "You aren't really buying that." Me? Buy Sean Kingston? So I put down the disc and grabbed a CD of all of The Clash's singles (which is an excellent CD, don't get me wrong!). But, you know what? I think I am going to go back there, and buy the Sean Kingston CD too! Because heck, I like cheesy music like that. And I'm not afraid to show it! HAH!

Hey lovelies! Today is the day that I do things! I've already screwed up by not waking up at 7:30 like I had planned (or even 9:30 for that matter!) but that's alright. I think if I share my list of things to do I might be that more likely to do it! Okay! I need to...

♥ Go renew my drivers license! I'm actually kind of scared, haha! It's been two years since I took the test!

♥ But I should probably apply at a couple more places just in case that doesn't work out... eep!
♥ And I just had a 15 minute long dream about going to Fabricland and sewing hoodies! Now I want to! So, I will go thrifting and fabric shopping!
♥ Figure out what to do with my poor laptop... this morning I awoke to my antivirus program politely noting that I have two trojans infecting my system. Rats!

Movie Review - Where The Wild Things Are

       Hello lovelies! Last night I watched Where The Wild Things are! Because I'm like, super lazy, Wikipedia has a pretty good plot synopsis, if you don't know what it's about.
      Amazingly, I actually really liked the movie. I don't know why, but usually I don't like movies (I'd much rather read a book, or go out and have my own adventures!). It was really sweet! I've never read the book though, so I'm not sure how close it carries to the original plot line. The director definitely captured a sense of adventure in it! It made me recall when I was younger and used to imagine crazy things (nothing that amazing, though!). I also thought the soundtrack was really amazing. It is done by Karen O of the Yeah Yeah Yeah's, and it carries a very mystical and imaginative quality. The only thing I was iffy about was the ending- I'm not going to spoil it for those who haven't seen it, but I felt that it was a little weak. And also, in the beginning, I felt an overwhelming urge to smack Max and ground him for life. Maybe I just don't have a tolerance for bratty, misbehaving children? But really, if my kid was wrestling my dog and making huge messes in his sister's room and breaking things and yelling... well, let's just say there would be no chocolate cake and happy endings! Haha.
     Anyways, if you haven't seen it already, I would say that it's definitely worth watching! And coming from me, that's probably a lot. (I pretty much only watch three movies- Super Troopers, The Doors, and the first half of Romeo and Juliet. I'm picky, alright?) Have you seen it? What did you think? ♥ ♥ ♥

Hello lovelies! It's finally Friday, yippie! Today is an excellent day to think of things that make you happy to be alive! I'm grateful for my wonderful Mommy, loving boyfriend, quirky friends, and my kitties! I'm really glad that my concert/mexi-hoodie adventure turned out alright (with the exception of Zack having an asthma attack at the concert, boo!), and that so far my Chem course is going well. We're almost done!

AH! The Tech N9ne concert was really fun! All the performers were really good (I really liked The Scale Breakers and Broken Logic) and Tech N9ne totally blew me awaaaaaay! Gah. Super cool. I didn't bring a camera, but it didn't really matter because there were so many tall people everywhere!That snapshot up there is one that Zack took on his phone. I think it was when the Scale Breakers were performing. I wore my brand-new Mexi-hoodie all night! Apparently they're actually called Baja's or something like that, pah. It kept me very cozy and warm.
Anyways, what are you stoked for? You've gotta be stoked about something, because Feck Yeah! It's Friday!

Good morning lovelies? Today, why not try making some pancakes from scratch? I think they're delicious!
You will need:
3/4 cup Flour
1/2 tbsp Baking Powder
1/2 tbsp Sugar
1/2 cup of Milk
1 tbsp Oil
2 Eggs

Simply mix all the dry ingredients together in a bowl, then add the wet ingredients. Mix together. Set your stove to medium heat (that's about 4 for me!). Spray the frying pan with non-stick spray (we use Canola Oil), and spoon the batter into the pan. When you start seeing bubbles come through the batter, it's time to flip 'em! I find this recipe makes enough for two people, if you need more, simply double it!

I like to fancy them up by adding things like cinnamon, brown sugar and apples, or pieces of banana and chocolate chips, or just fresh berries! I throw them in when I am mixing the batter.

Hey lovelies! Right now I am stuck in a boring-storm! I blame it on my lovely boyfriend because he's working in Vancouver and I don't get to see him until mid-next week! Augh!
Anyways, other than working and school and staring at my Tumblr dashboard into the wee hours of the morn, I haven't done much. Other than go thrifting! I think I have a problem. This is what I took home last time:

Actually, that's kind of a lie- the holster and the fold-out camera came from my oh-so-generous uncle! But the other stuff, clockwise from upper right, is: an old-school photography book, Winnie the Pooh and the Blustery Day and Think Pink on cassette (I saw a cool tutorial on how to turn cassettes into coin purses! I can't wait to try!), FernGully, a Kodak Ektralite 500, a vintage leather gun holster (needs some work, oh well! Still badass!), um a piece of my camera strap in the bottom corner, a really cute Garfield keychain, a very moldy Neil Young guitar songbook, and an Agfa Ventura 69! I don't know why, but I really adore old cameras.

I think it's really neat! Apparently when my mom was a teenager in the 1970's she was a Greenpeace member. I am so jealous- I wish I could have grown up in the late 60's to early 70's!
I also finally found the antiques store in my town. Oh. My. God. I think I experienced a thriftgasm. I was determined to not leave empty handed so I got this weird (yet cute) hat, apparently from the early 1950's:

I totally dig the veil. It makes me feel mysterious. Unfortunately whenever I wear it my mom calls me "Aunt Lil" because apparently it is something that my great-aunt Lilian would have an interest in. My mom says that Aunt Lil was a bitch; I think she had great taste in hats.

My cat seems rather unimpressed that there's loot all over her spot. Silly cat!
Anyways, that's about all I can think about sharing for now. Actually, maybe I'll give you a couple songs to listen to today! I'm on a soft-rock bender right now, and ack! I just found out that Tom Petty is playing in Vancouver this summer- and we couldn't get tickets! My bff and her family did though. So jealous!

Hey lovelies, happy Monday! How are you? I am still super tired from the time change, waah! I really should be having a nap right now! But first, I would like to share some fun suggestions to brighten your day!

♥ Bake something yummy? I am totally cookingly-handicapped, but the other night I made butterscotch chip cookies, and they were actually really good!

♥ Spend some time with some pets? Even if you don't have any of your own, your local animal shelter probably appreciates volunteer dog walkers or cat groomers!

♥ Listen to some old CD's or tapes? I always laugh so hard at the music I liked three, four, or five years ago! I bet this will be really amusing when I am older!

♥ Go through your closet? I just weeded through my dresser and found a huge pile of clothes that just don't fit right, or make me feel happy anymore. I do have a special bin full of cool clothing that I'm saving for my offspring, of which I put all my band tee's, favorite pants, and really awesome shoes!

♥ Paint a picture? Even if you have no faith in your artistic abilities, just give it a shot! Bonus points if you give it to a friend later.

♥ Just chill out? Grab your favorite snacks, get in some comfy clothes, and watch your favorite TV show or movie!

♥ Call up a friend? Find someone to share your Monday miseries with! I guarantee it will make it much nicer.

♥ And finally, did you know that today is International Nap Day? Because that is totally my next course of action. Comfy couch, here I come!

Holy, that was quite a long gap for me to be away from my blog! I am so sorry, my wonderful readers! I think I am all better now, so I've got to get back into my routine. I'm about to begin a mini-rant about working in retail, so if you don't feel like reading that, then skip down a few paragraphs! ♥
Okay. Retail. Seriously? Cancer of the earth. I hate it so much! It's all profit-motivated, there's really no "doing it for the customer", unless you're doing it so the customer will spend more money. I swear to god, if I have to read one more memo with like, a thousand exclamation points and lame little clip-arts, I am going to ralph all over the break room (which, of course is covered in motivational posters of budget goals and "non-negotiables"). Don't get me wrong, the people I work with are amazing and the job itself isn't too bad at all... I guess it's just the concept I don't dig. /rant

On the bright side? I got a really awesome umbrella! See this, because I'm far too lazy to get it and take a picture (plus, it's bad luck to open one indoors, no?). I actually went thrifting the other day and got a lot of cool stuff. I found lots of tapes to listen to in the car (Vanilla Ice?! Fuck yeah!), a wide white pleather belt, a tunic that looks like it hopped right out of the Legend of Zelda universe, a Barbie and the Rockers VHS and Skate Fest '88, and some fabric which I have sewn into a cute little aprom! Lots of fun things to keep me busy. Anyways, I should go eat some dinner! Catch ya later, lovelies! ♥♥♥

What I Wore - February 25 2010

Hello lovelies! How are you? I know I am supposed to be doing homework, but my mommy wants me to go get my passport photo taken, and I would much rather do that! Plus, I don't work today, so I can actually wear something other than dress pants and a nice shirt. Phew! All of my outfit today is either thrifted, or from Winners. Yay!

I'm actually wearing a dress under my t-shirt, if you couldn't tell! On my feet right now I've got some thick grey thermal socks and my brown Doc Martens. Apparently if I just don't do up the laces, they don't give me blisters! Awesome!

And lo and behold, I am wearing makeup today! I pretty much never wear makeup, but a passport photo is the kind of photo that follows you around (like a driver's license!). Umm let me see... I'm wearing...
♥ Bonne Bell Eye Definer eyeliner, I think?
♥ Maybelline Great Lash mascara in Brownish Black (I've been meaning to look for something new from a company that doesn't test on animals!)
♥ Annabelle eyebrow pencil in Blonde -I stopped shaping my eyebrows a while ago (Why? Because they looked like this!) and I'm not used to penciling them in so they look really big and weird.
♥ Physician's Formula Mineral Translucent Loose Powder (which works pretty good, I think? It's translucent so it pretty much takes away my shiny).
♥ ...and a dab of some cheap red lipstick I picked up in Calgary for 99c, I don't recall the brand but it's "Fatal Red" and that's awesome.

I also did a little something with my hair! It's really hard to take a picture of the back of my head, haha!

Wishing, Hoping, Dreaming

Hello lovelies! How are you this fine day? It's halfway to the weekend, hurrah! What has been consuming your mind lately? To keep my mind off of the present dullness of my life, I have been planning my future life! If you haven't already heard me say, I'm upgrading some courses right now so I can go to university in Christchurch, New Zealand next spring! I'm hoping to major in biology and minor in environmental studies, or something like that. And I am absolutely so excited! But what's even more fun, in my opinion, is to look online for really cool stuff to buy when I get at that point. So far, I've definitely come up with a few thing I'm lusting after!

♥ First and foremost, I really really really want a Macbook! I love my HP Pavillion to bits and pieces, but I think that a Macbook would be really handy for going to school, and editing photos in, and maybe even for DJ programs! Besides, I've only had my laptop for a bit over a year and it's screen is all damaged (from an unfortunate shampoo explosion in my packsack! Boo!), and it's starting to slow down a lot on me. Very saddening.

♥ Also, I think it would be really amazing to have a Canon EOS 7D! Hah, fat chance that's going to happen while I'm a starving student! I'll probably end up with a Rebel of some sort, but I'd even be thankful for that! I adore my A-1, but since I'm just learning my way around a camera it would be nice to be able to see the photos as I take them, and not have to spend a whole bunch of money on film! When I'm rich and awesome I'll probably get a house with a darkroom though, I do adore old-school photography!

♥ I love Dj'ing. It's really frustrating because I never practice and really suck right now, but I'll get there! Hopefully this summer I can use the turntables when I move into my motor home, so I will get some good practice time! Anyways, it's sort of difficult too because I have like, 7 different records. It's hard to find certain songs I want on vinyl, and it can also be fairly costly! ($45-€65? Booo!) That's why having some vinyl emulation software would be really, really amazing. Any song on your computer (given it's a good enough quality), emulated onto coded discs! That's wiggity-wack!

♥ And finally... I know I still can't drive, but my boyfriend made the mistake of showing me a New Zealand website that's sort of like eBay, but full of used cars! I love love love cars (Hey, I wouldn't be an apprentice mechanic if I didn't)! Egads. I would like this (HAH I wish!), this, sweet lord this had underglow and a really bad (amazing) spoiler, hey look it's the Subaru I really wanted, and I literally cried when he told me that this would be gone by the time we got there! Hopefully there's still something really cool for us to cruise in!

Anyways, I really could go on for a very long time! But don't worry, I'll stop here. Is there anything you really, really want to get your hands on? Don't be shy! ♥ ♥

Some Super-lame Advice

Hello my dears! How are you this fine Monday? I hope all is well! Over in my part of the world it's still cold and dreary (though there were a couple days of sun, yay!), so I just wanted to share some slightly-inspiring advice.
♥ First off, this should be totally obvious, but do what makes you happy. Really! Why would you do anything else? If something makes you unhappy, then change it (or at least, how you view it)!
♥ I think this ties in with the first point- Live for yourself! I'm not telling you to completely disregard the other people in your life, goodness no! But really now, in the end, you are the only person that you can rely on completely. Stop living to make everyone else happy! I know it's really hard to do, especially if you have parents with crazy-huge expectations of you or something. But in the end, if someone really matters, then they'll want you to be happy.
♥ And finally, always keep in mind that you are an absolutely wonderful, beautiful human being. Yes, you! You are a brilliant, gorgeous, unique creative genius. There is nobody in the world who could even come close to taking your place. I know it, and I know you do too, deep down in there! Believe me, sugar, you're amazing. I genuinely hope you see it too.

Magazines Make Me Sick!

     Okay, so I promise I absolutely never read these gossip rags, but my mom brought home a People magazine from her trip and I ended up flipping through it. Pretty much the same old stuff I really don't care for- Oh! She's so fat! Relationship SCANDAL! Get this look! Seriously?! These people don't have anything to do with my life, I'm never going to know them, so why do I need to know what's going on in their private lives?

     Anyways, I happened upon the above page, and I couldn't believe what I read! For those too lazy to read the picture, it quotes Beyonce as saying, "I'm always in pain! My earring are heavy, and my heels are hurting- they hurt all the time. But you know you have to sacrifice for beauty. You just kind of get numb after a while."

     ...WHAT? That's such bullshit! No one should ever have to sacrifice anything for "beauty". That's such a horrible message to give out to everyone! Beauty is about confidence in yourself. No pair of ridiculous uncomfortable shoes or huge dangly earrings is going to make you look beautiful, especially if you're in pain! It is definitely not okay to make yourself suffer for another person's standard of beauty. Ignoring your body just to wear something that's in style now is completely absurd, and the fact that a huge star is encouraging it makes me very disturbed.

Hello lovelies! I hope everyone had a good Valentine's day! I sure did- me and the boy went out for some Chinese smorg, and then went home and watched Zombieland (which was actually pretty funny), and 10 Things I Hate About You (absolutely adorrrrable)!
He got me some really yummy chocolate in the cutest packaging ever!

Awwwwe. Yummy! And my mom was so awesome as to buy me new shoes for Valentines day! What a sweetie! I got some dvs skate shoes... because I have the absolute worst weakness for skate shoes! Have you ever seen me on a skateboard? Probably not, because I fall off after about 2.5 seconds. I have horrid balance! So why do I own a gazillion pairs (well, actually I'm down to 3 now) of skate shoes? Who knows. But they're comfy, and cute. I like the ones I got because they're subtle, and not plastered with logos. Plus, the guy at the skate shop complimented my stripey toe socks as he was putting the laces in the shoes for me, and how could I not buy some shoes from him then? Haha!

I really really do appreciate fine shoes. I just prefer practicality over fancy, I guess! As of right now the shoes I have in my collection are: two old pairs of skate shoes (Circa and Etnies, thank you very much!), one pair of functional converse low-tops, one pair of slightly fancy cheap pleather boots with heels, one pair of 8-eye Dr Martens, on pair of silver 20-eye Dr Martens, one dilapidated pair of green silk ballet flats, bright green gumboots, some crazy DC winter boots, and one pair of black faux-suede hidden platform pumps. Oh, and random cowboy boots and leather riding boots that don't really fit, and of course my mukluks that have completely fallen apart. And on a completely random note- My mom and I just finished putting my mattress on a bed frame! Yay! My mattress and boxspring have been sitting on the ground ever since I got them over a year ago! I'm so happy, but now my bed looks absolutely massive compared to the rest of my room. Whatev! Giant beds are awesome!

Hello my lovely pumpkins! How are you this fine Friday? I'm still mega stressed (Three assignments and three labs to do in less than a month, AUGH!) and my moods have been quite poopy lately, but whatever! I think I'm going to go thrift as soon as I have a shower, and ride my mom's new bike to the mall. Yes, my mom got us a new bike! It's from Zellers (yikes!), and it's orange and has flowers on it and a "retro" frame... but the woman gets credit for trying! At least it has brakes, and changes gears, which is more than I can say about my poor rusty beast. ANYWAYS! Uh, about my trip! Me and the boyfriend flew out to Calgary last Thursday in the early afternoon. It was very cold and dry there! We went out to dinner at some fancy places, I got to go to a club for the first time (the legal drinking age is 18 there, over here in BC it's 19! Boo!) wearing this fancy dress from Forever 21! It was the first time I'd ever stepped foot into a Forever 21, and it was amazing! So much cute clothing, for so cheap! I also got to go to a H&M, but I didn't get anything because we were on our way out of the mall. Oh well! It was fun. We also got to go check out the natural hot springs at Banff, which was quite lovely! Here's some pictures! Brr! At some frozen waterfallsAt the club! Wearing way too much makeup!

I'm taking a flexible-distance physics course and I left myself five months of work to do in two. And, the deadline is coming up! I have my second midterm on Tuesday, and I'm also taking a Chemistry course, and tutoring my boyfriend's little sister! It's super stressful, so I'm trying to devote as much time as possible to studying so I can get it over and done with. Anyways, I'll try and throw a couple of posts in here and there! Good day, lovelies! How are you? I'm trying to do a lot of schoolwork right now before I go on my trip, to Calgary in a week, and I find that I'm really easily distracted! Yikes! So, my loves, I just finished have a mild-to-moderate mental breakdown on how my closet could just take an object and, seemingly, warp it to another dimension. Of course, that other dimension turned out to be the kitchen cupboard. What the hell? Why would a book from my bedroom closet be in the kitchen? Smacking my head in the top of my closet probably didn't help me out much, either. But all that aside! I have found what I was looking for!
Yes! Lewis Carroll's Alice in Wonderland & Through the Looking Glass! It's hardcover, illustrated by John Tenniel, and it says it was published in 1946. I don't know how legit that is, but it smells pretty old! It was a gift from my ex-stepfather's parents, but that was a very long time ago, and I've read it very many times. So, my dears, how would you feel about getting your hands on this bad boy? I've still got a few more ideas for the giveaway, but if you'd like to share a suggestion, then fire away! I Pretty Much Suck at Saving Money.

It's true, dears! I was doing so good at not using my bank card and having a budget of $80 per paycheck... but then... bang. I went to Winners. Don't get me wrong, I absolutely adore discount stores, but ah! There was just too much amazing stuff! It's like they heard me coming and decided to put out all the adorably ugly things from the back, just for me to discover, take pity on and buy. Anyways, I actually put back a whole lot of things I was thinking about getting, but here's what I left with:

This lovely peacock feathery dress was only $30! The tag says Speechless, which I've never heard of before, but from checking out the website you can find it at Macy's and Rampage. We deff don't have those stores around there but I think they're nice? Anyways, it's quite cleavage-bearing, thus the hand censor, and it had a cute sparkly pin that went right beneath where my hand is, but there were a bunch of gems missing! Poo!

Okay, so I just realized that this is an awful awful awful picture of me. But it's not about my face, anyways! Check out that crazy skirt! It totally looks like something my Barbies would wear! It was only $12, too. The shirt my mom bought for my friend Mr. Wafflez, it says "Hot Waffles To Go" on it. Cute!

And here we have a totes cute mirror (I just took it out of the package, it actually has no border at all! Too bad I can't hang it on my walls because I live in a lame trailer. Boo!) , some weird zebra lingerie thing that was like $13, and super cute Betsey Johnson tights! Yes, I finally found some! They were $7, which is more than I would usually pay for tights, but now I can say I own something Bestey Johnson. At last! I am so stoked, and I absolutely cannot wait until it warms up some so I can wear tights outside again.

And so, my loves, I would love to show you where the greatness which is this, Mishelle, Ma Belle, is created! (Is that, enough commas, for you?) Hehe! I just finished putting up my photo string, which I have been meaning to do for a long time.

Yippie! Hopefully as I take more pictures I will make more and have my room photo-licious. Mwahaha. Now, the true genius- my desk.

Yeah! This is where I blog, paint, do school work, and waste pretty much most of my time. My mom keeps trying to get me to get a new desk, but I'm kind of in love with the fakewood theme my room's got going! I definitely sit at a camping chair while I do my desking. Comfort? Totally. Mobility? Not so much.

And this is my crappy attempt at making a panoramic of most of my bedroom. No, you may not see the floor, because it is extremely messy and cluttered right now. So is my bed, if you couldn't guess. :) If you haven't noticed, I like retro-inspired things, and space! Amazing! There's also some of my art scattered throughout my room, and once I crank out a few more paintings, I think I'll make a post showing you guys them! Whee!

Anyways, it's quite past my bedtime right now. I've got Chemistry class tomorrow morning, eek! Must get much-needed sleep! I love you all, have a great night and I will be back soon!

It's only about one million dollars, but I figure if I find enough people to pool their money together with me... well... Wouldn't that be awesome?!?! Owning Dick Island? Which just so happens to be shaped like male genitalia?!~ We could make Dick Castle, and call ourselves royalty! How fun would that be! Ah, to wake up and watch the sun rise while sitting and sipping tea off the eastern nut... :)
